Self-Driving Chairs Are a Brilliant Way to Be Lazy Why walk when you can not walk?

Nissan has finally done it and created a monster only previously hinted at by apocalyptic sci-fi films—an autonomous chair.

But the idea is innocent enough.

Now long lines at store or restaurants can be a comfy parade of autonomous chairs, intelligently shuffling patrons up the waiting ranks. Nissan uses its same ProPilot car technology, announced in July, which is a fully autonomous system but only under certain traffic conditions.

Although Nissan putting its autonomous know-how into restaurant queue lines scores pretty high on the gimmick scale, it does bring up ideas about how autonomous tech could reach beyond cars and into assisted living devices like wheelchairs, something institutions such as MIT have investigated for years.
